At Emergent, our mission to protect and save lives comes through all facets of our work, from the products we develop to the way we operate. That includes the impact we have on the communities where we live and work, as well as the communities touched by our work. With our 2024 ESG Report, we continued our commitment to strengthening environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices as part of a long-term strategy to ensure sustainable and responsible growth.
Alyssa Sherman-Shepard, director, environmental, social and governance (ESG) and corporate social responsibility at Emergent, says that the year’s efforts focused primarily on deepening our ESG foundation while preparing for evolving global standards.
“Some highlights of our 2024 ESG efforts are that we once again, for the third year, published our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions,” Alyssa shares. “Through 2025, we’ll be working toward limited assurance for those disclosures, demonstrating our continued dedication to transparency and accountability.”
Emergent also launched an ESG road mapping exercise to ensure that we remain informed and compliant across the diverse geographies in which we operate and/or are required to disclose ESG-related information.
Emergent is advancing its ESG work by making sure we institute a solid foundation to build upon as we grow our business both in the United States and internationally.
“That foundation will serve us well as the ESG landscape, and the broader reporting landscape, continues to evolve,” Alyssa says.
At Emergent, we recognize the influence our operations have on the environment, the communities we serve and the people within our companies and value chain. With that comes a responsibility to act as good stewards at every level.
“Like all companies, we know our operations have an impact in multiple ways. We want to make sure that we are living up to our mission not only in the products that we provide, but in the work that we do while we are making those products. It is our responsibility to make sure we are being good stewards in every aspect of our business.”
A highlight of Emergent’s ESG report, going hand-in-hand with strengthening communities, is our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work.
“For more than a decade, Emergent has been working with charities and non-profits in the locations where we operate, and we have had a strong impact with those organizations. 2024 was no different. I am incredibly proud to work with these organizations, supporting them in achieving their own goals and therefore helping improve our communities,” Alyssa says.
Helen Revelas, director, environmental sustainability, health and safety, adds, “Over the past year, I have been so encouraged by the continued enthusiasm of our employees. Even with challenges throughout the business, with some ESG initiatives needing to be delayed, our employees continued to look for opportunities to make a positive impact. They found opportunities at their sites to reduce energy consumption, find new avenues to recycle waste and continued to volunteer in their communities. To me, this speaks directly to our value of leading with integrity. I’m proud to work with a team that perseveres and does the right thing even when times get tough.”
As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, Emergent remains committed to embedding ESG into our core business strategy, driving resilience, ensuring ethical practices and creating long-term value for all stakeholders.
