Since 2018, Emergent has awarded scholarships to the children of Emergent employees who plan to pursue a post-secondary education through our Emergent Scholars program. Emergent Scholars is one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to educate tomorrow’s leaders, and continually invest in our employees and their families.
We caught up with one of our Emergent Scholars, Denver Brown, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University ’25, daughter of Kenasha Scott, Senior Paralegal. Denver is pursuing a degree in political science, with a minor in public affairs on the pre-law track.

Tell us about yourself, and what you’re currently up to.
I am Denver Brown, a rising sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. This summer I will be participating in the University of Memphis’ LSAC PLUS program! I am beyond excited for this summer and grateful for this scholarship! I enjoy reading, shopping, researching and spending time with loved ones.
What inspired you to pursue a degree in political science, on the pre-law track?
I was initially inspired through my AP Government class. Later, I began working at a daycare and decided to pursue education law to assist and advocate for student issues.
What are some of your favorite courses so far, and how have they impacted what you want to do in the future?
My favorite courses have been Business Management and American Government. The American Government deepened my interest in law and attending law school. While I do not desire a career in business, it has provided me with a better understanding of the world around me.
Outside of your coursework, what are some of the things you are involved with on campus?
This past year, I served my school’s National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) as an intern and volunteered on campus and in the Greensboro community. I became a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Aggie Real Estate Society, CHILD UP, Political Science Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. This upcoming school year I will serve my college as a Senator and NBLSA as Secretary.
How has receiving a scholarship from the Emergent Scholars program impacted you, and your studies?
Receiving this scholarship has impacted my studies and I by alleviating the stress of financing school. With less stress, I have been able to focus on my studies more.
What is some advice you have for high school students considering your area of study?
I advise them to not limit themselves! I would let them know to expose themselves to the endless fields of law through research, school and internships.
Congratulations on all your accomplishments, Denver! We look forward to hearing about your continued success, and the impact you’ll make in the future.
