The Adopt-a-Highway program encourages volunteers to keep a section of a highway free from litter. In Winnipeg, Emergent BioSolutions has an 8 km stretch of highway that, twice a year, sees groups of volunteers spend an afternoon cleaning. This commitment, through Winnipeg’s employee driven Green Initiative Group, makes a difference in our environment and shows the pride that we take in our local area.
Our volunteer teams work hard at each of our highway and other park clean-up events, enjoying a day of fresh air while making an appreciated and worthwhile contribution to our surroundings.
Woldumar Nature Center, located in Lansing, Michigan, attracts more than 25,000 visitors a year with its walking trails and beautiful views of the Grand River. Through each spring and summer, Emergent employees participate in service days at Woldumar. In August, a group of employee volunteers spent a morning weeding garden beds, trimming bushes and shrubs, and spreading mulch in garden beds.
“Volunteering at Woldumar with my peers from Quality was a blast. The heat didn’t stop us from having a good time and everyone was proud of the work that we accomplished, from trimming bushes, right down to the placement of the bench when we were done.” – Rachael Bulock
