Why We Lead
Is there something happening out there that we need to be ready for? An emerging virus? A chemical or biological attack? Or the risk of opioid overdoses? Being prepared means developing, manufacturing, and providing protections that safeguard millions against things we hope never happen. Just in case they ever do.

BIO International Convention
On Monday, June 5th, at the annual BIO International Convention , Emergent’s Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs, Chris Frech, will participate in a panel entitled, “Enhancing public health preparedness through policy and partnership.”
The COVID-19 and Mpox health emergencies have underscored the need to be prepared to address future public health threats, whether those threats are manmade or naturally occurring. The US and the EU continue to strengthen their preparedness ecosystems, through intergovernmental and industry partnerships, enhancing critical preparedness capabilities.
The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) leads the US response to public health emergencies, while the Health Emergency and Preparedness Response Authority (HERA) is the central element for EU preparedness and response to serious cross-border health threats, by enabling rapid availability, access and distribution of needed countermeasures.
This distinguished panel will provide a lens into the US and EU priorities for preparedness, the policy ecosystem that can enable enhanced future preparedness and response, the importance of trans-Atlantic cooperation, and how industry may partner with government.
The session will be moderated by Asha George, DrPH, Executive Director, Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense, and speakers include Mr. Pierre Delsaux, Director-General, Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), European Commission; Ms. Dawn O’Connell, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, US Department of Health and Human Services; Emma Wheatley, Deputy General Counsel and Head of Collaborations, CEPI; and Chris Frech, SVP, Global Government Affairs, Emergent BioSolutions.
