Launched in 2020, Emergent’s small business and supplier diversity initiative is our commitment to aggressively pursue opportunities to work with small businesses, with an emphasis on small businesses that are minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, disability-owned, LGBTQ-owned, as well as small businesses that are located in historically underutilized business zones. The goals of this program are to:
- Add value by developing a diverse base of suppliers
- Promote opportunities for small businesses
- Establish positive working relationships with qualified small businesses and help meet our clients’ contract requirements on small business objectives
- Demonstrate our commitment to meeting diverse supplier base and small business goals on all of our federal contracts
- Support the socioeconomic mission of supplier diversity and small business programs
- Build awareness throughout the organization of the contributions that successful small businesses can make to the vitality of our economy
In 2022, 3.6 percent of our supplier base was composed of small and diverse companies, from whom we purchased more than $28 million of goods and services.
We monitor our efforts and measure the success of our Supplier Diversity program through:
- Increase in expenditures with small businesses
- Participation by Emergent BioSolutions departments in Supplier Diversity initiatives, such as workshops, trade shows, and networking activities
In order to do business under our Small Business program, prospective suppliers must be certified as a Minority Business Enterprise, Woman-owned Business Enterprise, LGBT, or US federal government–categorized Small Businesses by one of the certifying organizations that we recognize.
