Emergent BioSolutions Commemorates National Recovery Month and Save a Life Day
- The Ready to Rescue initiative continues its partnership with Release Recovery Founder & CEO, Zac Clark, to connect with and educate college students on mental health, substance use and opioid emergency preparedness
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 24, 2026 — In recognition of National Recovery Month and Save a Life Day, Emergent BioSolutions (NYSE: EBS) is reaffirming its commitment to helping communities prepare for and respond to opioid emergencies through education, access and action. As part of this effort, Emergent is supporting Save a Life Day, the nation’s largest annual day of free naloxone distribution, to help expand access to life-saving naloxone and ensure everyone has the power to save a life.
“National Recovery Month and Save a Life Day are important reminders that recovery, preparedness and community support go hand in hand,” said Paul Williams, senior vice president, head of products business, global government & public affairs at Emergent. “While significant progress has been made in addressing the opioid crisis, too many lives are still impacted by opioid emergencies. Through educational initiatives and partnerships with organizations on the front lines, we are helping expand access to lifesaving resources and empowering more people with the knowledge and tools needed to respond when every second counts.”
As part of these efforts, Emergent’s Ready to Rescue initiative will continue its partnership with CEO and founder of Release Recovery, Zac Clark, to engage college communities in conversations about recovery, mental health, substance use and opioid emergency preparedness this fall. The initiative launched its fall tour at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where Zac joined student leaders, faculty members and recovery advocates for a discussion about the challenges facing young adults today, the importance of reducing stigma around substance use disorder and mental health, and how individuals can be prepared to respond during an opioid emergency. Attendees also learned how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, and the role naloxone can play in helping save a life.
Building on the momentum from ETSU, Ready to Rescue will continue its campus tour this fall with events at Virginia Tech and The Ohio State University. Through these conversations, the initiative aims to equip students, faculty and staff with the right knowledge, encourage open dialogue around recovery and mental health, and promote preparedness for opioid emergencies.
“College campuses are a place to foster conversations that can change and even save lives,” said Zac Clark, founder and CEO of Release Recovery. “When we have honest discussions about mental health, substance use and recovery, we help reduce stigma and connect people with resources that can make a real difference. At a time when young adults are increasingly exposed to a wide range of substances, including products that may be perceived as harmless or low risk, education and preparedness are more important than ever. Through Ready to Rescue, we’re encouraging individuals to learn how to recognize an opioid emergency and feel empowered to respond with NARCAN® Nasal Spray.”
Emergent remains committed to expanding awareness and access to lifesaving tools that can help communities prepare for and respond to opioid emergencies. For more information and to learn how to be prepared in an opioid overdose emergency with life-saving intranasal naloxone, visit NARCAN.com.
